Franklin County is in Northwest Florida in the panhandle bordering the Gulf of Mexico and Liberty, Wakulla and Gulf Counties. There are miles of uncrowded pristine beaches, protected shallow bays, excellent fishing and acres of National and State forests to explore. This area also offers some of the finest seafood in the country.
Franklin County is named after Benjamin Franklin. In 1845, Dr. John Gorrie of Apalachicola built the first ice-making machine in this area. Its population is 11,000 plus and the area is 1,037 square miles. Some of its cities include Apalachicola, Carrabelle, Eastpoint, Lanark Village, and St. George Island.
